Winthrop/ETV Poll - October 2008

The sixth in a series of polls by Winthrop University and ETV, will be of likely voters in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. It will be horserace in nature--carefully detailing head-to-head results among the candidates--as well as an examination of respondents' feelings about major issues of the day.

The polling sample is significant enough to be able to identify which of the three states, if any, might well go Democratic on Election Day. Virginia and North Carolina, in particular, are still described by leading pundits as "battleground" states.

Coal Power

At a time when our country is desperate to find new energy, South Carolina’s state-owned utility, Santee Cooper, is proposing a new coal plant in the Pee Dee region. Over half of our country’s power comes from coal, and it is cheap and plentiful, but experts say that it causes the most air pollution, along with mercury poison. Republican Convention

The Big Picture leaves the Democrats in Colorado and travels with the South Carolina Republican Delegation to Minneapolis, Minnesota to the GOP’s official kick off to the 2008 Presidential election.

We will examine the role South Carolina plays on the convention and the upcoming election, talk with national political leaders and journalists about South Carolina’s impact, and speak to various members of the party and delegation about what this historic event means to them.
